Mug – Plora Aquí

After his acclaimed tour concluded in late 2022 and the release of “Joia” in 2021, Ferran Palau arrives with an album that promises to transport us to a universe brimming with fantastical creatures and natural landscapes. This new record, which was conceived throughout 2023 in various locations, becomes a nomadic adventure that defies traditional recording conventions. This time around, the producer’s figure blurs, giving way to a more cohesive collaboration among various creative minds. Jordi Matas and Joan Pons have been involved in this process, while Mr. Chen has spearheaded the organization and cohesion of the work. Additionally, Innercut has decisively contributed to refining and defining the sonic essence of the album with part of the mixing and mastering. Palau confesses that during the recording of this album, he regained the sense of innocence from his early years with Anímic when facing challenges without a clear path ahead. Inspired by folk and soul musicians of the 60s and 70s, as well as field recordings, his interest in lo-fi textures intertwines with elements of hip-hop, constantly seeking balance between the organic and the digital, blurring the line that separates these two musical worlds. Visual aspect takes a starring role in this experience. Palau came to the conclusion that monsters from 80s and 90s cinema would be the visual focal point of his new work, an idea brought to life through the talent of Pablo Maestres and the illustration of designer Dsorder. The visual concept has been devised by Palau, Maestres, and Dsorder, with initial mock-ups created by Ferran and materialized (under the direction of musician and director) by artist Agnès C. Olivé, who, along with her collaborators Andrea Ruiz Pérez and Atena Pou, have created the monsters that star in this story, Snif and Smosly.
